Counselling and Listening

Our counselling and listening service is provided under the name of Woodley Lighthouse.

You can call us on any personal problems, e.g. bereavement and loss, anxiety and depression, loneliness and relationship difficulties. We can counsel both adults and children. With children,  we use a combination of play therapy and talking, depending on the age of the child. For children’s therapy, we have a child protection policy.

All matters are discussed in complete confidence (subject to legal requirements). Many people have found talking through problems with our volunteers and having counselling has made a real difference to them.

We normally arrange for you to meet with one of our volunteers, either in a home or in a local public building such as a church. Sessions normally last for about one hour, and you can have one session or a number of sessions with the volunteer, depending on what is needed.

These services are provided free of charge (but donations can be made to the Woodley Pilot Light Trust)

Woodley Lighthouse is staffed by trained volunteers and overseen by a local professional psychotherapist. Some of our volunteers are trained  as listeners, while others are trained counsellors at either certificate, diploma or degree level
